9. Glossary and acronyms

English terms have been kept in alphabetical order to make technical documents, particularly standards, easier to read.

An asterisk (*) indicates a reference to another definition. Definitions are taken from the standard.

AC transform coefficient; AC transform coefficient

Coefficient resulting from the discrete cosine transform (DCT) and expressing in the frequency domain the variations in luma*/chroma* values of pixels in an image area (block*) in one or two dimensions.

Access unit; access Uni (AU)

A set of NAL* units associated with each other according to a specific classification rule. They contain exactly one coded image and are consecutive in decoding* order.
