6. Conclusion

The challenges of affordable volumetric video capture are numerous and cross-disciplinary, and could lead to the democratization of these techniques for many professionals and the general public. It can be used in a wide range of sectors, including audiovisual, video games, metaverses, live performance, medicine, sports, training for crafts and industry, etc.

It's a sector that has little competition in Europe, but is seeing major advances on other continents. It's a stake in the future that can also modernize the media, digital, XR and AR, but also telecommunications with live streaming and the possibility of transmitting holograms remotely. It's an important issue at a time when metaverses are exploding.

We need access to public and private funding, and investment in research and development, if we are to catch up with the USA and Asia....
