7. Concluding remarks
There is a clear distinction between multicore and manycore processors that goes beyond the number of cores. Multicore processors use a shared memory model with a single address space and complex cache hierarchies.
Manycores use a distributed memory model, with SRAM blocks close to the computing cores, most often interconnected with 2D grids.
It is this spatial distribution of compute-SRAM blocks that allows for a significant increase in the number of cores, with one or more levels of 2D grids.
For high-performance mobile and embedded applications, the results are mixed.
