4. Creating the first virtual machine

At this stage, we're ready to create the first virtual machine (VM). To demonstrate the flexibility of the solution, we'll be installing Windows 10, a radically different operating system known to be fussy about hardware.

When a VM is created, Proxmox stores the VM's "hard disk" in a subdirectory called "images", in an area intended for storing images, followed by the VM number. VM numbers start from 100 and increment with each new VM, but the choice of number remains free as long as there are no duplicates. In order to be able to take snapshots of the VM's disks, we'll first create a zone for this VM, which will have the number 100. This will be done simply with the "all ZFS" command:

# zfs create rpool/Zstorage/images/100
