3.1 Choice of gas composition and cooling system
In almost all cases, the industrial gas available comes from the combustion of sulfur or sulfide-containing metal ores, or from the decomposition of sulfuric acid.
Roasting techniques and the constraints associated with them mean that, whatever the nature of the raw material, we can say that the SO 2 content of the gas varies between 7 and 12% by volume at the exit of the combustion section.
On the other hand, oxygen content varies from 9 to 11% in the case of sulfur combustion to 3 or 4% in the case of pyrite combustion.
