3.1 Elution mode

In elution mode, separation is based solely on the partitioning of compounds between the mobile and stationary phases.

As long as the solute concentrations in the column remain low, the partition coefficients can be considered constant and the retention time (or average residence time) is directly related to the partition coefficient and the retention of the stationary phase in the column [P 1 496] ....
