4. Applications

Coal gasification can be used to produce a wide variety of products: electricity, chemicals, natural gas substitutes (NG) and synthetic fuels. It is of strategic interest against a backdrop of tense oil and gas markets.

4.1 IGCC + CCS

The IGCC (Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle) is a combination of gasification and combined cycle (gas turbine + steam turbines). Its advantage over a conventional coal-fired power plant is greater electrical efficiency, thanks to the performance of the gas turbines. What's more, this scheme enables easy desulfurization of the gas before combustion, and authorizes CO 2 capture (CCS CO 2 capture and storage ) under good economic conditions...
