To filter suspensions relatively free of solid particles (generally impurities), filtration is performed in the mass, or at depth, by flowing the suspension through a porous mass (sand or gravel bed).
The purpose of this article is to present the various local filtration equations and tests for determining concentration, retention and pressure profiles, in order to predict the optimum operating conditions for a homogeneous constant cross-section filter.
