1. Main factors characterizing a dust collection problem

The process of selecting a process or equipment begins with the characterization of the fumes or gases to be treated. The quality of the particles in suspension must first be determined. Are they liquid vesicles or solid particles? What quantity is present? Clearly, a technology designed to treat 10 mg/Nm 3 will not be the same as one designed to treat 100 g/Nm 3 . What is the carrier fluid? What is the particle size? Then there are the process considerations. Is the gas flow subject to fluctuations or pulsations? Is the environment corrosive or flammable? At what pressure are we working? Finally, there are the economic questions. What are the investment and operating costs? Table 1 summarizes the main questions to ask.
