4.1 Metals and alloys and their assembly

Some pure and alloyed metals lose their resilience at low temperatures, going from being ductile to brittle. Ductility can decrease progressively with lower temperatures, sometimes starting from 0°C. The change in ductility can also be abrupt, as in the case of ordinary steels at around – 20°C.
