1.1 Thermodynamic aspect
Isomerization is a balanced and weakly exothermic reaction (4 to 20 kJ/mol).
Since the formation of branched structures (high-octane isomers) is favored at low temperatures (Figure 1 ), the industry seeks to carry out the process at the lowest possible temperature. However, regardless of the operating temperature, the reactor output always contains a mixture of normal paraffins and isoparaffins.
