1. Biofilter modeling

Among the biotechnologies applied to gas treatment, biofiltration is certainly the most rustic and longest-established process. Developed in the 1960s to eliminate odors from water treatment plants, these systems were originally built on the basis of empirical considerations. Over the last twenty years or so, they have undergone considerable development, particularly for the treatment of volatile organic compounds. This boom has been accompanied by recent scientific studies aimed at rationalizing design and sizing methods.

The following is a description of one of the classic models in the literature, which remains one of the most widely used due to its simplicity.
