4. Safety precautions

Many people believe that nitrogen is harmless because it is non-toxic and largely inert. However, as with many industrial gases and chemicals, care must be taken when handling and using it, as it can act as an asphyxiant by displacing oxygen in the air to levels below those necessary for survival.
