5.1 Logistics as a function

Supply chain management must be based on a dual approach:

  • to implement and execute supply chain processes directly;

  • functional and strategic, to take logistics into account in overall performance and in the design of logistics configurations.

It's a function that concerns a range of specific professions, but which at the same time cuts across the whole company, through all the interactions it involves. Several variants can be observed in terms of the role of logistics, with notable differences in :

  • whether or not his or her position in the company is established, his or her official presence...
