1.1 Context
Aromatics are a family of hydrocarbons found in crude oils, and are particularly important in the world of petrochemicals. In particular, they form the basis for the manufacture of many modern synthetic materials. The most sought-after aromatic intermediates are benzene, toluene and paraxylene (BTX) (figure 1 ). These compounds must meet the petrochemical industry's demand for aromatic raw materials.
