2. LRAN method

The LRAN method uses elastic scattering without wavelength change, after scattering by particles (known as "Mie" scattering) and molecules and atoms (known as "Rayleigh" scattering). It is the simplest of the lidar methods, and the most affordable in terms of instrument set-up and measurement processing.

2.1 Useful digital lidar signals

This article analyzes the operation of LRANs in continuous detection (also known as direct detection) for aerosol and cloud applications.
