5. Combining OCT with other techniques

While optical imaging techniques generally suffer from limited depth of penetration into biological media, mainly due to light scattering, they have the advantage of high spatial resolution. Combining OCT with other optical techniques, such as nonlinear microscopy, can reveal various structural features of tissues at high resolution. The identification of certain unlabeled molecules using Raman spectroscopy can complement the morphological information provided by OCT images. Finally, OCT can be combined with photoacoustic imaging to study tissue vascularization at greater depth.
