5. Influential process parameters
The main objectives of laser melting are to manufacture dense parts (typically with porosity rates of less than 1%) with good mechanical properties, close to the specified dimensions and with a good surface finish. To achieve these objectives, there are many parameters that need to be taken into account. Below is a non-exhaustive list of these different parameters.
5.1 Powder
The thickness of the deposited layers typically ranges from 20 μm for the thinnest to less than 100 μm for the thickest.
