5. Environmental aspects

It is generally accepted that the building sector (in general: construction, operation, dismantling, deconstruction, etc.) has a significant impact on the environment in the broadest sense. This is reflected in a number of indicators, which are generally included in building environmental quality labels. Among these indicators, it is important to highlight those directly related to energy issues.

5.1 Production of greenhouse gases

The greenhouse effect is caused by the presence in the atmosphere of gases and aerosols that absorb and re-emit part of the infrared radiation emitted by the Earth's surface, thus heating up the lower part of the atmosphere.
