7. Applications

Geotechnical monitoring is an integral part of the design and construction of certain structures, particularly those for which real-time knowledge of parameters enables the construction to be adapted (backfill on compressible soil, underground structures) or for which the risk aspect is important:

  • on populations (slope stability, hydraulic structures) ;

  • on neighbours (work in urban areas)...

In the case of backfill on compressible soils, for which the soil may or may not have been improved by treatment or reinforcement, it is common to see in the CCTP that the contractor must ensure the stability of the structure and control settlement by auscultation of the structure and the soil on which it is founded.
