8. Glossary

Heat pump (PAC) (PACg: geothermal heat pump)

Thermodynamic device for transferring energy from one medium to another using a refrigerant.

Conduction (conduction)

Energy transfer without mass transfer. In the case of thermal geostructures, energy is transferred from grain to grain via contact surfaces.

Advection (advection)

Energy transfer with mass transfer. In the case of thermal geostructures, energy is transferred via a flowing aquifer.

TRT (Thermal Response Test)

In-situ test using a geothermal probe to determine the effective thermal conductivity along the length of the probe and the initial ground temperature.

Coefficient of thermal expansion

Ratio of volume change...
