1. Steels and alloys for internal combustion engine valves

European standard NF EN 10090 of June 1998 applies to high-alloy wrought material grades. These materials are used to manufacture intake and exhaust valves for reciprocating internal combustion engines.

  • Definitions

    Valve materials are steels and non-ferrous metal alloys with varying degrees of resistance to the following phenomena:

    • heat ;

    • thermal cycle ;

    • corrosion ;

    • oxidation ;

    • fatigue ;

    • impact bending ;

    • wear through friction and abrasion.
