4. Conclusion

Density values for liquid metals can be obtained with an accuracy of better than ± 0.2% below 1,000°C, and of the order of ± 1% up to 1,700°C.

The IEX technique provides a useful way of extending measurements to much higher temperatures than those previously used. Although the density values proposed with the latter technique are less accurate (± 4%) than those obtained with conventional methods, the very wide temperature range (which can reach over 5,000°C, for example, for tungsten) enables thermal expansion coefficients α to be measured quite satisfactorily.
