7.1 Coloring glass and other materials
The inclusion of gold NP in glass was already used to color decorative objects in the 4th century AD. This is the case of the famous Lycurgus cup, on display at the British Museum in London. , which contains gold and silver NPs, so that the cup appears purplish in transmission (light source behind the cup), while it diffuses green reflections when the light source is on the same side as the observer.
