4. Identification and counting

Given that the behavior of steels varies according to the nature, shape, quantity and distribution of its inclusions, they need to be identified and counted according to criteria selected according to the use of the steels and the type of information required (accidental ranges, average cleanliness).

4.1 Macrographic methods

They are preferably applied to the entire section of the part, finished product or semi-finished product, representing the product cast from the skin to the axis, after breaking or machining. Eye examination reveals inclusions from 0.1 to several millimeters in diameter (standard NF A 04-105 in ).
