4. Deburring

Magnesium alloys can be deburred using the same means as for aluminum alloys, bearing in mind the following observations.

  • Sandblasting

    This operation must be carried out on the entire sprue to completely clean the casting system and obtain clean returns by removing as much silica adhering to the metal surface as possible.

  • Sawing

    Band saws should be used at cutting angles and speeds suitable for magnesium alloys.

    Cutting speeds used in sawing are between 400 and 1,000 m/min, with saws featuring 2 to 3 teeth per centimeter.

  • Grinding

    Grit size of grinding wheels or abrasive cloths should be between 30 and 150.
