8. Energy management: ISO 50001

The foundry reference document (BREF), published in 2005, contains little information on energy management in the foundry sector. The future BREF will be much more comprehensive on the subject of energy efficiency.

The horizontal BREF on energy efficiency, the latest edition of which dates from February 2009, is a comprehensive document with a methodical and rigorous approach to energy management in industry in general, as it is aimed at all types of industry. It is a useful source of information for carrying out an energy audit or implementing an energy management plan.

In the current economic and environmental context, energy efficiency is an effective lever for controlling costs in foundries. It should help reduce energy bills and greenhouse gas emissions, so that foundries can contribute to their environmental and social commitments....
