4.1 Environmental management system framework

A foundry seeking to expand, whatever its size, needs to organize and manage the impact of its activities on the environment. An environmental management system (EMS) can be set up in the same way as a company's production management system. The International Organization for Standardization, in partnership with representatives from industry, politics, government and environmental associations, has drawn up a globally recognized standard, the ISO 14001 on environmental management systems, which specifies the procedure to be followed and the requirements to be met in order to obtain the seal of approval.
