1. Introduction to plasticity

This approach is based on continuum mechanics. We will briefly review the basics. You can also consult the general works [1] at [5] .

We'll use very similar notations, distinguishing all vectors and tensors with bold type, while scalars are noted with the usual characters.

We also adopt Einstein's convention of summation over repeated indices.

This text is an update of the one written by Jean-Loup Chenot [15] . In this new version, we will focus on a more extensive description of the plastic behavior of metallic materials, as the development of numerical simulation techniques [6]...
