11.1 Processes

Casting refractory steels is not fundamentally different from casting less-alloyed steels. However :

  • for austenitic steels, slightly greater shrinkage must be taken into account;

  • ferritic grades can present a problem due to their low toughness in the as-solidified state, and are generally not used.
