4. CVD versus other deposition processes

The use of various coatings capable of imparting new properties to the materials they cover has developed all the more spectacularly since the practitioner has at his disposal, both in the laboratory and in the workshop, numerous and sometimes complementary processes from which he can choose to deposit a given material on a given substrate. These include :

• chemical deposition from a gas phase ;
