Characterization after coatings and surface treatments

All the actions carried out on the surface of a material, whether by depositing a given coating or by modifying the surface using one of the processes described in the previous paragraph, involve conditioning the properties of this surface to enable it to satisfy one or more functionalities, in compliance with the specifications:

• resistance to mechanical stress: friction, wear, erosion, abrasion, impact, mechanical and thermal fatigue... ;

• resistance to chemical stress: corrosion, oxidation, tarnishing, change in appearance... ;

• compliance with adhesive bonding ;

• reflectivity, color, appearance... for specific applications, particularly in architecture;

• physical surface properties, such as electrical conductivity...
