6. Assessing treatment quality

Assessing the surface cleanliness of a part is a relative concept that goes far beyond the scope of this document. A "clean" part for some applications may be completely unacceptable for others. Characterizing the degree of contamination of a surface without specifying the requirements for use seems difficult. In fact, it is the subsequent use of the part that determines the pollution threshold that can be tolerated.

A good match between the surface cleanliness of the part and its subsequent treatment will therefore be the criterion determining the conformity of the treatment.
