According to the toxicological data sheets published by the Institut national de recherche et de sécurité (INRS), and in particular those relating to nickel [36] , it appears that the toxicity of the metal nickel is relatively low by the oral route, whereas it is much higher by the parenteral route, and depends on the route of administration to the subjects tested.

Acute oral poisoning mainly causes digestive disorders. Only one fatal case has been reported: a child who ingested 200 g/kg of nickel in sulfate form.
