1. Thermal spraying

1.1 General principle

Thermal spraying encompasses all processes whereby a filler material is melted or brought to a plastic state by a heat source, then sprayed onto the surface to be coated, where it solidifies.

As a result, the base surface does not undergo any melting.

Deposit adhesion is mechanical.

Figure 3 shows the general principle of thermal spraying: the material to be deposited, in powder, wire, cord or rod form, is totally or partially melted in a heat source (flame, electric arc, plasma).
