6. Conclusion

In the as-welded state, the welded assembly presents a number of handicaps which prevent it from taking full advantage of the high mechanical properties conferred on metallic materials to protect the structure against failure modes such as brittle fracture, fatigue cracking or even SCC. A wide range of thermal and mechanical treatments acting on the shape and/or field of CR are available to enable designers to make the most of the chosen material.
