4. Steel production patterns and energy consumption

On the basis of all the elements gathered and summarized in the previous three paragraphs, and taking into account the evolution of processes, energy balances can be established for all types and configurations of steelworks. Without being able to study all cases, which would go far beyond the scope of this article, we will show the significant variations that can be found by grouping them together for the most important cases, i.e. the three processes described in the first paragraph.

4.1 Classic scrap-fed mini-mill

For this type of plant, which is the simplest and with which we will begin, there are only the three basic configurations shown in figure
