4. Physical metallurgy and the various alloy classes

4.1 Elements of physical metallurgy

Ultrapure titanium has a pseudo-compact hexagonal structure known as the α phase up to 882°C. Above this temperature, called β-transus, the crystallographic structure becomes cubic-centered, and is called β-phase. Above 1,660°C, the β-phase transforms into a liquid phase, which boils off at 3,287°C.
