5. Example of data application: combustion of carbon dissolved in an iron-chromium alloy

We propose to calculate the amount of heat released by the combustion of carbon during the refining of a carbon-enriched ferrochrome using a gas mixture of 25% argon and 75% oxygen (by volume), as well as the final temperature reached by the bath (neglecting heat losses).

The initial composition of the metal is as follows:

  • % Fe=81,5   ;

  • % Cr=17   ;

  • % C=1,5 ...
