 INTRODUCTION

Deposit corrosion occurs when deposits of ash or salt build up on metal walls, altering their environment as a result. It occurs in many industrial installations involving combustion, such as gas boilers, waste incinerators, engines, fluidized-bed reactors, gas turbines and coal conversion processes. The reactions involved are numerous, and a single mechanism does not allow this type of corrosion to be generalized. Various review articles have addressed this mode of corrosion. In this article, we take a closer look at the phenomenon of hot corrosion and attack in household waste incinerators.

Another type of corrosion we'll be looking at in this article is that which occurs in molten media. Molten metals and molten salts are used for their good heat transfer properties in the industrial fields of heat treatment, heat exchangers and energy storage.

Note :

The study of dry corrosion of metals presented in the Matériaux métalliques section of Techniques de l'Ingénieur is divided into several sections:

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: oxidation, carburizing ;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: sulfurizing, nitriding;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: halogens ;

  • M 4 227 - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases: deposits; molten media (this article) ;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Choice of alloys ;

  • - Dry corrosion of metals. Industrial cases. Find out more.
