Friction technology is still highly complex, and the recommendations given here are obviously only trends.

In addition, as certain rules are often established on the basis of a given parameter, it is possible to come across contradictions when several parameters are taken into account; faced with this type of situation, the choice between possible options should be made by identifying the overriding factor(s), for the friction situation concerned, based on analysis of the tribological system, supported, if necessary, by experimentation.

Finally, the application of a certain number of tribological principles, such as those relating to material allocation, must in all cases be validated with the other elements of the specifications and, in particular, take into account the specifications linked to a particular function and/or construction...
