Overview
ABSTRACT
Fluorocarboned elastomers are synthesized from a limited number of organic monomers, mainly highly fluorinated entities. They are associated with other components such as vulcanization sites, which provide a crosslinking capacity, and propylene which facilitates their implementation. Other properties, primarily related to the nature of the monomer constituents, characterize these elastomers, in particular their high resistance to thermal and climatic aging and their good chemical resistance. However, fluorocarboned elastomers have a high manufacturing cost, for this reason, they are only used in highly technical applications.

INTRODUCTION
Fluorocarbon elastomers are co-, ter- or tetrapolymers which correspond to the general formula: C m F n H p (X), in which fluorine constitutes between 64 and 70% of the elastomer and where X represents the possible presence of other constituents such as vulcanization sites introduced to ensure crosslinkability or special properties such as, for example, flexibility at low temperatures.
Perfluoroelastomers are polymers with the general formula: C m F n X, where X represents the presence of a minority polymer such as perfluorovinyl ether.
The special properties of fluorocarbon elastomers are generally as follows:
good resistance to various types of ageing: thermal, climatic, UV, ozone ;
good chemical resistance with some exceptions ;
limited behaviour at low temperatures ;
high price.
Obviously, the nature of the monomers and vulcanization systems influence these general properties.
