5. Conclusion

Although already an old technology, 3D weaving has really taken off in recent years, driven by the need for industrial applications and optimization. As shown by the applications presented, interlocks can be used to produce composite parts with major advantages over traditional draping technologies. Numerous process optimizations have been achieved, such as automated preform manufacturing, the elimination of a large number of machining steps with the weaving of "near net shape" parts for complex geometries, and the elimination of the manual draping step. Manufacturing costs were reduced by optimizing the production speed of the weaving machines. Finally, the unique mechanical properties (impact resistance, interlaminar shear response) of the composite material obtained enable this technology to be used in the most demanding applications.
