4. Structural and microstructural characterization

The following is a brief description of the main experimental techniques used to characterize glass-ceramics, and in particular the nucleation/growth phenomena that govern them. We won't go into detail here on the classic characterization techniques for accessing properties of use (mechanical, optical, thermal), but will focus on the microstructural aspect, which is closely linked to the macroscopic properties of glass-ceramics.
