Should workwear be managed as PPE?

When work clothing (T-shirt, pants, etc.) is likely to be soiled by hazardous substances, it must be managed as PPE, even if it offers no particular mechanical, thermal or chemical protection.

The employer must ensure regular cleaning of these work clothes and enforce basic hygiene rules such as :

  • in the changing rooms, no contamination of street clothes;

  • at mealtimes, no meals in work clothes likely to be "soiled";

  • workers must not take soiled outfits home with them.
