5.1 Determine your documentation system based on your company's operations
ISO 9001 is less prescriptive than its predecessors. It focuses on results and performance, and then defines the appropriate means to achieve them. In this sense, the company's documented information exists not because it is a requirement of ISO 9001, but because the company deems it necessary for its operations. The documentation system is not an end in itself, but a tool for the quality management system.
