Once your facility has been decommissioned, it is no longer required to comply with legislation governing classified facilities, but this does not exempt you from applying general environmental regulations (air, water, waste, etc.). Failure to do so may result in criminal penalties. For example, the French Environment Code imposes a fine of up to €1,500 on works and installations falling within the Water nomenclature that are carried out without prior declaration or authorization. With regard to waste, failure to issue, complete or send the hazardous waste tracking form is punishable by a fine of up to €750 for a 4th-class offence.
