1. What are the objectives of an initial diagnosis?

The initial diagnosis is very important and must be carried out by a polluted sites and soils professional in order to provide clear answers to the following questions.

  • Are there secondary sources of pollution on the site?

  • Is there a risk of pollution being transferred to other environments (groundwater, surface water, air)?

  • Can pollution mobility conditions change or are they stable?

  • Are contaminated sources and environments in direct or indirect contact with people?

  • Is the state of the environment in line with the geochemical background, existing regulatory management values or compatible with the uses identified?

  • Is it necessary to carry out a quantitative health risk...
