5. Mistakes to avoid

5.1 Don't forget to check that the architectural constraints imposed by IEC 61508 (redundancies) are verified in addition to the calculation of the probability of failure.

The SIL level to be retained for a RIS is the minimum level obtained between :

  • the SIL level determined from the numerical value of the probability of failure ;

  • the SIL level determined by the RIS architecture.
