INTRODUCTION
Assessing ignition probabilities is an essential step in carrying out quantified risk analyses. To date, it is certainly the most open-ended step in quantified risk analysis.
To correctly assess the probability of ignition, it is necessary to :
identify product properties or characteristics that may influence the probability of ignition;
differentiate between the notions of immediate and delayed ignition;
be familiar with the main sources of ignition so as to be able to identify them during risk analysis and ensure that preventive measures are in place;
be familiar with the means and tools available to assess ignition probabilities (databases, mathematical models).
